Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. Oswego County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or contact submission may be kept long enough to answer and manage the message. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Loading a page can cause the servers to record basic technical and usage details:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic information, such as popular pages and common exit points. Browser controls can block cookies, although some site functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Route a search request to the selected partner service
- Maintain site availability, speed, and operation
- Find and correct technical failures
- Measure which pages are useful or need improvement
- Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Oswego County Criminal History does not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general routing information for the Oswego County Sheriff, court clerks, DCJS Personal Record Review, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy policies, retention periods, and sharing rules govern any information submitted to those tools. We do not control those terms, so review the provider’s policy before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Oswego County offices, New York courts, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search tools. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination’s privacy policy controls. Read it before providing personal details.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to follow activity across sites and select targeted ads.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard security measures are used for collected data. No internet system is fully secure, however, and the site cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor’s data is identified, a deletion request may be made.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with the law that applies to the visitor. New York’s Freedom of Information Law governs access to agency records, while Executive Law § 837 addresses DCJS criminal-history functions and dissemination. Those government-record laws do not turn this private site into a records custodian. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
Updates to This Policy
